LIGHTWEIGHT MORTARS

LIGHTWEIGHT MORTARS
In the construction of new buildings and in the renovation of old ones, lightweight mortars are used because of their thermal and acoustic insulating properties.
The lightweight mortars are characterized by density between 100 e 600 kg/mc, i.e. by far different from those of other commonly used mortars. This density is reached replacing the common aggregates, sand and gravel, with natural or synthetic lightweight aggregates. These lightweight aggregates are called “virtual” aggregates, since they differ significantly from the cementitious matrix as regards the density, mechanical strength and thermal conductivity, and contribute to the mortar in terms of volume only.
In the polystyrene mortars the aggregates are replaced by polystyrene. This can be in the form of virgin expanded polystyrene beads or even crushed polystyrene granules. Other lightweight materials, like perlite, vermiculite, and cork, can be used as well. The products differ then for their physical characteristics.

The lightweight mortars are produced by mixing the cementitious binder with water and with the low-density material.
For the production of lightweight mortar K.G. Bontira produces mobile plants on truck and portable batch mixing pump for bagged cement or bagged premixed dry mortars.
The mobile plants on truck are fully automated. Portable mixing pumps are feeded with bagged cement and aggregates or with dry premixed materials. Water is added automatically in the pre-set quantity.
K.G. Bontira can advise personalized solutions for lightweight mortars and can deliver additives for making stable and cohesive mixes, eliminating the problems of having floating aggregates on top of the casted surface.
